I'm Dr. Eliza McCarthy, pictured here with my dog, Leelu.
Veterinary Medicine is my second career. I started in education after obtaining my undergraduate degree from the University of Miami. I began teaching middle school science while earning my Masters of Education. After teaching for several years I became a high school administrator in public schools and earned my Doctorate of Education in teacher education. After ten years in the field I took a leap into veterinary medicine to follow my true passion: helping animals get the love and care they deserve.
I attended the University of California-Davis Veterinary School where I focused on behavioral medicine. I served as an active duty veterinarian for the U.S. Army for four years where I took care of military working dogs, military working equines, and the private home companions of service members. After leaving active service in 2019, I began to serve in the Army Reserve and deployed to Afghanistan in 2020. Upon my return I began serving as the base veterinarian at Mountain Home Air Force Base. While I continue my work in the Army Reserve I am now a full time relief veterinarian, working in emergency and general practices across the pacific northwest.
As someone who has a "special" rescue dog myself, I understand how behavior issues can disrupt your well being or your companion's happiness. I am committed to creating a more harmonious household for all.
In addition to being licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the states of Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and California, I am Human-Animal Bond certified and Fear Free Certified.
It is my pleasure to provide physical or digital in-home services for you and your animal companions when I'm not travelling or taking care of our military working animals.
